CHAMBERSBURG, PA:   On Thursday, September 24th, major donors to the Grove Family Library joined Franklin County Officials as well as Library Officials in a private mortgage burning reception at the 9 ½ year old facility located on Ragged Edge Road.

The Grove Family Library is named in honor of John L. and Cora I. Grove who were major donors to the project. Since opening its doors in February 2006, over 777,000 children, adults, senior and families have used their many services and attended hundreds of events.

The ground up build cost $2.8 million and $2.3 million was raised from the community. Phase 1 of the capital campaign was chaired by Tom Shearer and Edwin Heckman. Phase II of the capital campaign was chaired by Dr. Edwin Sponseller and F. Lucille Stence, who were both present for the festivities.

Guests at the event were treated to music, refreshments and wine, cheese and chocolate pairings. Bernice Crouse, Executive Director of the Franklin County Library System closed the mortgage burning ceremony by stating, “Franklin County Library System is dedicated to bringing the most modern, educational, resourceful and personal growth experiences to our community, not just for today but far into the future. We are committed to being good stewards of the resources gifted to us. Stay tuned for The Next Chapter.”

A public mortgage burning celebration for the community at large will take place on Saturday, September 26 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Festivities will include music, craft, s’mores and outdoor fun. The rain date is Sunday, September 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
