New BLD LibGuide: Sample Policies and Procedures for Public Libraries | Compendium

Sample policies and procedures, along with helpful resources and additional information, are now available on the new BLD LibGuide, Public Library Operations and Board Governance.  This LibGuide is designed to support public libraries with resources and best practices in various areas of library operations.

We’re excited to share that sample policies and procedures are now available for the following:

  • Cash Management Procedures
  • Collection Management Policy
  • Computer and Internet Use Policy
  • Wireless Internet Use Policy
  • Travel Policy

These sample policies and procedures are a great starting point, but please keep in mind they are just examples, and may not fit every library’s unique needs.  We encourage you to adapt them to suit your library and community.  Any policy your library creates should be tailored to the library’s specific circumstances and approved by the library’s board of trustees or governing body.  If you have legal questions or need guidance on implementing a policy, be sure to consult with your library’s attorney.

This LibGuide will continue to grow, with more policy and procedure samples on the way.  If there’s a specific one you’d like to see added, please let us know by filling out this form.

A special thank you to the members of the Policy and Procedure Steering Team for their dedication in creating these resources for public libraries in Pennsylvania!

We look forward to continuing our work in the coming year of samples policies and procedures!
