National Center for Health Statistics (Boost Box) — Presenter Tara Das from the Lehman Social Sciences Library, Columbia University, will review the work of the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), which is one of the principal statistical agencies in the United States. We will discuss NCHS data collection and data release methods and publications. Data access for researchers interested in analyzing NCHS data will also be included. August 11, 2015 / Noon – 1 pm (ET)  Online / No Registration Required (Focus on NLM Resources) – Hathy Simpson, Public Health Information Specialist, will provide an overview of public health information resources available from the public health web portal,, including the Healthy People 2020 Structured Evidence Queries (pre-formulated searches of PubMed). provides access to selected online public health resources from government agencies, health science libraries, and professional and research organizations.

Grants and Proposal Writing – Designed for beginning grant proposal writers, this class presents a general overview of the grant and funding processes as well as the level of detail required in a successful proposal. Each component of the grant writing process will be addressed, including: documenting the need; identifying the target population; writing measurable objectives; developing a work plan, an evaluation plan and dissemination plan. 4 MLA CE.
