September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

(LOCATION) –  – [LIBRARY] joins libraries across the nation to make sure that every child has the most important school supply of all, a free library card. It has been estimated that two thirds of our most vulnerable citizens, children living in poverty, have no books at home and the number of families in poverty is on the rise. Children of all ages who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school. The [LIBRARY] realizes the impact of reading in the home and encourages community members to apply for a library card today.

The [LIBRARY] has numerous resources available to anyone who has a library card. Students and parents can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable staff. [Give examples of programs and resources at your library].

Basic literacy skills – the ability to read and write—are essential to well-being and to fully participating in American society. Basic literacy is one of the goals of PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries, an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association. For more information on how basic literacy and PA Forward impact Pennsylvania, visit:www.paforward.org.

Visit [LIBRARY’s WEBSITE] to find more information about the library and how to get a library card. It will be the most valuable thing in your wallet.
