STEM Training for Library Staff
The STEMlab at the State Library of Pennsylvania presents bimonthly, hybrid STEM training for youth librarians and staff. Past topics have included Biofuels, Polymers, Architecture and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for kids. Training can be attended either in person at the State Library or virtually. In addition, these trainings are recorded, and can be found on the PA Library Staff Academy website (registration required).
The next live training, titled Single-board Computers, will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 10 a.m. – Noon.
This session will forcus on electronics, such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and Circuit Playground that allow upper elementary, middle, and high school students to learn coding and put it to practical hands-on use. The training will demonstrate both virtual and physical uses of these boards and will enable library staff to learn and prepare to host their own local programs. Coding will be on virtual Raspberry Pi and Arduino. The course will also cover OctoStudio and Scratch. Please email RA-EDMAKERSPACE@pa.gov to register to attend the August 21 training.
The STEMlab may present tailored training for your staff, including loaner equipment, both in person and virtually. Email RA-EDMAKERSPACE@pa.gov for more details.
Please note this reminder that the STEMlab lending library is open for equipment and book loans. State Library staff will interlibrary loan materials for your programming and training. These materials can be circulated for six weeks. If you wish to find the STEM resources, check out the Discovery Collections tab on the State Library catalog, or go directly to the STEMlab Collection.
