Written by city native and historian Ken Frew, Building Harrisburg: The Architects and Builders 1719-1941 is a comprehensive look at more than 200 years of Harrisburg’s architectural history. Tracing its days from a colonial trading post and John Harris’s Ferry, to its incorporation as a third-class city and the state capital of the twentieth century, Harrisburg’s past is painstakingly researched and richly told. Illustrated with over 350 color and black and white photographs, architectural drawings and renderings, many of them rare, Building Harrisburg will have appeal for both scholars and lay readers alike. (bio from Amazon.com) Mr. Frew will describe the transformations of Market Square in particular!
Please note that the State Library has a copy of the book to reference in the library but not for sale. His book is available at the Midtown Scholar bookstore and the Dauphin County Historical Society
