Muhlenberg Community Library Hosts “Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet” Traveling Exhibition and Programs | Compendium

Laureldale, PA, November 1, 2017Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet, a national traveling exhibition exploring a global view of our changing environment, will be on display at Muhlenberg Community Library from January 13, 2018 to March 9, 2018.

Getting people interested in science can be a challenge, but Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet strives to make it fun with a focus on local earth science topics—such as weather, the water cycle and ecosystem changes—as well as a global view of our changing planet.

Muhlenberg Community Library will also offer a related series of public events to bring STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programming to children, teens, adults and families. In addition the library will invite classes to schedule field trips to enjoy the exhibit and participate in STEM activities.

“We are proud that Muhlenberg Community Library was selected to be one of fourteen sites nationwide to host the Explore Earth exhibit,” said Melissa Adams, MA, MLIS, Muhlenberg Community Library Director. “We think people of all ages and backgrounds will find that the exhibition explores earth science in a way that is understandable, captivating and relevant.”

Muhlenberg Community Library is located at 3612 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale, PA. The exhibition is free and open to the public during library hours, Mondays through Thursdays 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Fridays 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Saturdays 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of programs and events, including a family-friendly program on January 20th by Folks Butterfly Farm. This program will include interactive contact with caterpillars and chrysalis, anatomy with a costume and the habitat and life cycle of butterflies. Folks will also bring the butterfly flight house where people can enter the butterfly habitat. Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet was organized by Space Science Institute’s National Center for Interactive Learning, the American Library Association Public Programs Office, the Lunar and Planetary Institute and the Afterschool Alliance. This project was made possible through the support of a grant from the National Science Foundation.
