Karey Killian, a library media special at the Milton Area School District, is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and the first educator from around the world that Microsoft chose to highlight in their Changemaker series!
After extreme rain, high humidity levels and resulting mold caused the loss of 50-75% of library books at Killian’s three elementary libraries. Watch the video [begin at 1:14:43 until 1:34:34] of Killian’s keynote presentation for Microsoft’s Global Education Exchange.
Killian says that “On May 22-24 a company called Opening the Book will install a new library at Baugher Elementary School in Milton.” She adds that “The students are extremely excited about this transformation that they helped to design. Their last library class will be in the new library with the new books ($10,000 donated by Microsoft).” There’s a picture of what the library will look like in the Keynote video above.
Every year Microsoft holds a global event to celebrate the amazing things that educators are doing all around the world. Over 90 countries were represented this year and 23 educators from the USA were selected to attend. Killian was invited as one of the Keynote presenters to inspire the audience about Empowering Students as Change Makers.
