Staff members from the Meyersdale Public Library‘s Pennsylvania Room were recently awarded certificates of appreciation from the Somerset County Office of the Register of Wills. Archives Assistant Carolyn McKinney and Archivist Jennifer Hurl were recognized for their assistance in the resolution of a decades-old estate. The presentation was made by the county’s Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans’ Court, Sharon Ackerman.
The estate in question had gone unsettled for many years because heirs could not be located. However, skilled genealogical researcher Carolyn McKinney took the lead in using her expertise and technological advances to find the missing heirs.
“In Appreciation of Devoted and Invaluable Services rendered to the Court of Common Pleas of the 16th Judicial District Office of the Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans’ Court Division Somerset County, Pennsylvania for unwavering assistance in the resolution of a decades-old Estate.”
The certificate is dated October 1, 2020, but the pandemic disrupted its actual presentation until March of this year!
