FREE COURSE Early Literacy and Books: Making the Connection | Compendium

This is a basic introduction to the early literacy components and practices as set forth in the Every Child Ready to Read @ Your ® library updated in 2011 (http://everychildreadytoread.org).  You will get an overview of early literacy and what it looks like for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and will apply the components and practices to books for young children.

What you need to know before registering

Time commitment:  The course takes place over five weeks.  You do the work when you have time

Cost:  Free (to you), but there are a limited number of spaces available.  Please be sure you have time to devote to the course each week. 

Format: Online course that uses the Moodle platform.

You must complete an Introduction to Moodle class before you can attend Early Literacy and Books course. This Class will consist of two short assignments that must be completed between August 24 and September 4.  Each will take less than an hour to complete.

Course Dates:  Begins week of September 8, 2015

Required Readings:

Ages and Stages by Karen Miller (2001, Gryphon House).

Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney. It can be the print copy or you can read it online. The site requires a login, but you can sign up for free to read it.
