The Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls in Partnership with the Attorney General’s Education and Outreach Department held an Antibullying Drug Awareness Expo on April 18th.
The day was filled with activities for Kindergarten to 12th graders, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. The award winning Theater Group Saltworks from Pittsburgh presented two live presentations; for 6th grade and up was on drug use and the effects on the entire family and the younger ones experienced Bullying and defend yourself against bullies. Teens and parents heard the story of two teens that are recovering heroin addicts. The young ladies shared their stories and how they came to start their lives over.
In the library, several groups set up informational displays; from the high school SADD and the Law Club, the Franklin Center brought in a 3-D Printer, the library had information on summer reading programs and events and the Center For Creative Arts Students face painted. The Lions Club offered their assistance to guide people around the library. In the parklet next to the library were first responder vehicles. The Beaver Falls Fire, Police Departments and Medic Rescue vehicles, trucks and bicycles for exploration and the Attorney General’s Office brought their cyber lab.
Library Director, Jean Barsotti, comments: “It’s been our privilege to work closely with the AG’s Outreach and Education Unit as well as Beaver Falls’ law enforcement as we prepared for this event. We are committed to remaining a center for life-long learning that is located in Beaver Falls. We welcome the opportunity to be involved in all efforts to strengthen our city and help provide a safe environment in which that learning can occur for years to come. This is an exciting community event for the Beaver Falls Library to be able to offer.”
