NOTICE: Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
Please see the statement by Secretary Jeh Johnson concerning the district court’s ruling on DAPA and DACA.
Of note, the Department of Homeland Security will not begin accepting requests for the expansion of DACA today, February 18, as originally planned. Until further notice, we will also suspend the plan to accept requests for DAPA. However, the Court’s order does not affect the existing DACA. Individuals may continue to come forward and request initial grant of DACA or renewal of DACA pursuant to the guidelines established in 2012.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin accepting requests for expanded portions of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program on Feb. 18, 2015.
Per the revised guidelines ( uscis.gov/immigrationaction ) established as part of President Obama’s recent announcements on immigration, the DACA program will be expanded in several ways:
The deferred action and employment authorization periods will be extended to three-year increments (no longer limited to 2-year increments)Allows applicants of any age to apply (no longer limited to those born after June 15, 1981)Allows applicants who have lived in the United States continuously since at least January 1, 2010 (no longer limited to those in the United States since June 15, 2007)
USCIS advises the public to be extra careful to avoid immigration scams. To learn how to identify and report scams, and how to find authorized legal assistance at little or no cost, visit uscis.gov/avoidscams or uscis.gov/es/eviteestafas.
